Update - SNC Pro Shop has Bobcat car stickers available. We also now have hockey tape and mouth guards available in the concession stands if needed.
Our next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 9th at 7 PM in the Cornerstone Rink Side Room. Please feel free to email me with items for the December meeting.
We have added a new ALUMNI page to the GBAYHA website. Please forward our site information to any past GBAYHA members and ask them to contribute updates. For those soon to graduate, please let us know where your travels take you after you have finished high school.
Flyers went out in the schools as planned to help promote our youth hockey and skating programs. Our HIP and Mighty Mite programs are quite full with many new hockey players who seem to be having quite a bit of fun with much positive feedback.
We had our first 2 Gambler 50/50 raffles for the year and took in approximately $1200. Big thanks to the volunteers who helped put this together and work the nights of the games to make them a success. We will be looking for volunteers to sell tickets for the next 3 events so please remember how important fundraising is to our association and help when available. Each volunteer needs to be 18 years of age or older and will receive a free ticket to watch the game for the night they volunteer. Please remember how important our fundraisers are to keep our costs down and help grow our sport. Having worked both of the Gambler fundraisers myself, this is one of the most enjoyable fundraisers I have ever been a part of and would not hesitate to volunteer again.
On the fundraiser note, please make sure to sell your calendar raffles over the holiday season. If you have not received your calendars, please see your team manager. Also, our concession stand proceeds have been better than they have in the past few years. Thanks to the GBAYHA members that have worked and put a pleasant smile on their faces to help the customers that support our stand. In case you wondered, ALL profits from the concessions while our members work go to our association and are very important – that is something worth smiling about.
WIAA (high school hockey) is now working with our board to help develop our young players for their future play. This will hopefully be a good synergy moving forward with additional feedback to our coaches and development suggestions for our organization. The Gamblers have also had a present at our practices and are serving as good role models with new and fresh ideas on the ice. These are both very positive synergies that have gotten much positive feedback.
Over the past couple of years, area associations have been participating in a new league that had been put together to encourage local play. The league seems to have dissolved this year, but is not yet dead. We are still playing the “league” games, but the formal structure is not in place. Hopefully, the area associations can get the league back on track for next season.
For those members looking for ways to clean out their closets, you can donate your hockey equipment that no longer fits to GBAYHA and use the donation as a tax deduction for the year. Please contact our equipment manager if you are interested in making a donation. Used equipment is often used in our HIP program to help outfit the kids that are trying hockey for the first time. Donations are also used for those families that need help purchasing hockey gear when in a financial need is identified.
Girls’ teams met on November 13th to discuss the possibility of creating a WIAA girls team. The meeting was held with a number of parents that have girls skating in our association and the area Athletic Directors.
On a final note - Attitudes are contagious. Are yours worth catching? ~Dennis and Wendy Mannering
